  • Site Development

Site Development I have lots of ideas for this site and it is keeping me busy. During lock down, many of us have learnt new skills or finally had the time to do something that we have wanted to do for a long time. For myself, it has been creating this site. I continue to work on the look and feel of Magic Seats. Hopefully the homepage now looks quite good. Particularly happy with how it looks on desktops but still want to improve how the site looks on mobile. New promo videos and slideshow added to give the page some life and energy. Social media buttons also added. A couple of new directory pages have also been added, listing magicians with their photos and website links. Hopefully a good directory to use when wanting to identify magicians and quickly work through their websites. Lastly a promo page has been added where I can display any tour pictures for promo purposes that I am supplied and asked to display on the site. Hope you like the site and continue to visit. It will be updated regularly. Please get in contact if you have any ideas, or perhaps want to be listed. Thanks all.

  • More Magic Festivals Please!

More Magic Festivals Please! While magicians are very well catered for with conventions which magic fans will often attend, why do we not see more actual magic festivals? Festivals showcasing performers and their shows. Edinburgh has hosted a very successful Magic Fest in December annually for many years now since 2010. A week of organised theatre magic shows, showcasing the best Scottish magicians. It was founded by magician Kevin Quantum and and organiser Svetlana Shevchenko. I was able to attend one year when it was online via Zoom during lockdown. It was excellent value and I got to see about 8 shows and review. Some of the artists that I saw who were not household names end up gaining a lot of publicity from the event increase their audience exposure. The organisation of such an event always requires headline acts and a decent location(s). It makes sense that any location would be a city that has a number of venues available for different acts and attract an audience. An opportunity for not just leading well known magicians but for lesser known acts who can be showcased as well. Comedy festivals are now very popular, so why not magic? Appreciating that magic is also popular with children, a weekend event including family shows during the day as well as evening entertainment would be ideal. Pricing and promotion can be for individual shows as well as passes for the entire event. I suspect that part of the reason we don't see many such magic festivals is that is is likely to be quite difficult and time consuming to organise. But what a way to promote magic as an industry. Are we missing a trick? You of course need a budget for costs and venues etc but could magic clubs be part of the solution? Magic clubs are often good at supporting and providing events for their own members but just imagine if clubs collaborated to put on festivals and promote the art of magic to the public in unison? At best presently, a club may put on a single show but likely not well publicised. Are magic clubs too insular when it comes to promotion of magic outside their own groups of members? Just imagine how good a magic festival could be if you had a number of clubs all working together and putting on shows as part of a regional festival. I for one would certainly buy a ticket if hosted at a good location. Many of us know how exhausting it can be to organise and put on a show. But also, it can be very rewarding with many benefits, with many opportunities for promotion of performers. Maybe one day we will see more professionally organised magic festivals. In the meantime, if you are in Scotland or can get to Magic Fest this December, check out their website here . A well organised professional event with many great performers showcased. If any other magic festivals exist aimed at the public and magic fans that I am not aware of, please let me know in the comments.

  • How to Zoom Magic!

How to Zoom Magic! With the weekend fast approaching, I have yet another Zoom show booked. This time it is a public Zoom performance of Tom Brace’s show “Connected”. I will write up a mini review after watching the show. This will be my fourth Zoom show after watching Magical Bones perform a couple of times and also Elliot Bibby. Tom is doing two shows this Sunday the 28th of June and tickets are currently still available for the shows. His website indicates that the 7pm show is nearly sold out (at time of writing) and not many tickets left. A 5pm show is also available. Take a look at Tom’s FaceBook page for updates. Also, within the “MagicSeats” website, take a look at the Zoom Magic page. It lists Zoom Magic shows that I know of. If you are aware of a show that is not listed, please tell me. I have reviewed the Zoom listings yesterday and I can confirm that the page is currently up to date. My Zoom Magic page has links to all the artists sites. Take a look and they will detail the booking process. Many of the private bookings are via email exchange. The public Zoom Magic shows tend to have an online ticketing agent. If you haven’t tried a Zoom show yet, general public Zoom shows are the best way to try this medium. Ticket prices are really cheap for these public shows and I have only paid between about £11 to £13 so far per show. Though as the popularity grows for these shows and audiences buy into the medium, I have noticed some price increases. For private shows, fees are varied dependant on the artist but range from about £30 to £300 Some artists also allow you to decide how much you want to pay and they just make a recommendation for the minimum amount. If you haven’t used Zoom before, you can download the app to your phone, desktop or tablet After creating an account, all you then need do is test your setup To join any Zoom Magic event, you should be provided with a link, meeting details and password in advance after purchasing a ticket. Before any shows, you are normally encouraged to attempt to sign on between 5 to 10 minutes prior to the start. But always follow the email instructions that arrive with your ticketing details. You can then switch on your camera and sound, dependent on whether you wish to be seen or not. Certainly for general public shows, whatever you feel comfortable with is best. For private shows and to gain the full interactive experience, camera and sound is recommended. Lastly, a huge advantage of some of the public shows currently available is that for the price, you can have the whole family watching from the same screen. If you book any Zoom shows, let me know how you get on and your views in the comments below.

  • Non magic autographs | Magic Seats

Magic Seats collectables pages. AUTOGRAPHS, BOOKS, MAGIC SETS, PLAYING CARDS, POSTERS, PROPS, SELFIES, VIDEOS AND MORE. "Some of the amazing "non magician" autographs that I have collected in person or via online means". Sharleen Spiteri I am a bit of a Texas fan and I properly got into them around the time of the "Black Eyed Boy" album in the mid nineties. This Texas gig was a little while coming as I booked the tickets prior to lock down. We were on the front row as part of a meet and greet experience. We also received VIP laminates, a signed set list and the memories. Sharleen was very friendly and while the opportunity is a couple of minutes at the most, I will always remember. Nice also to have the signed setlist from the gig. Since this photo was taken, I got to see Texas perform in 2023 and I still play their music most of the time. Date: 1st March 2022 Location/venue: Demontfort Hall Marina Sirtis (Star Trek) I was hugely into Star Trek as a teen and like many teenage boys, enjoyed watching Marina Sirtis on screen play Counsellor Troy. As she was appearing at a local comic con, it seemed like a good opportunity to check out the dealers and gain a signed photo. A lovely lady, but the shocker is that while her character has an exotic accent, she is actually a London girl. Slight accent change! We got to speak to her for a few minutes and she was quite generous with her time. Date: Summer 2022 Location/venue: Birmingham NEC Doug Hyde When buying a Doug Hyde book at a gallery in Stratford Upon Avon, they kindly gave me this signed autograph. I have a number of his prints signed as well which are also numbered. I am quite a fan of his work. Date: Approx 2020 Location/venue: Whitewall Galleries Various Signed Edition Books While lucky to own these signed books, they were purchased as signed editions from Waterstones. As no story attached, I have listed them together. Based on the selections, I think it is obvious to state that I am into music and I am a child of the 70/80's. My favourite signature in these books is Mel C, who has taken trouble to customise with a heart. Also good to have Pepsi and Shirlie and Andrew Ridgeley. Somehow I don't think I will be getting a George signature as way too expensive. And Martin Kemp also happens to be Shirlie's husban The Jimmy Carr book was purchased at Jimmy's gig in Leicester and was hand signed for the event. Date: 2022 through to 2023 Location/venue: All via Waterstones accept the Jimmy Carr book which I purchase signed at a gig. Alan Fletcher Like many, I watched Neighbours growing up in the 80's and 90's and I do recall the Kennedy family moving into Ramsay St. Karl Kennedy aka Alan Fletcher is a bit of a Neighbours legend. I was able to meet him during his "The Doctor will see you now" tour. Such a friendly chap who signed quite a few things for me. You get a few minutes to chat with him and I will remember this when watching him on screen. I still enjoy a bit of Neighbours. His theatre show was brilliant and well worth seeing. It totally made up for the fact that I missed the Neighbours Celebration tour due to Covid. If you get a chance to see Alan perform, I would totally recommend, though it is likely to be a while now before any future tour due to his filming commitments. Date: 5th July 2023 Location/venue: Castle Theatre in Wellingborough Stefan Dennis Originally I was due to see Stefan Dennis at the Neighbours Celebration Tour that I unfortunately was unable to attend in 2023. When the show was wrapping up before the 2022 cancellation, I was able to get hold of this signed photo. This appears to be a legit autograph. I have one other bought separately, signed by another neighbours actor but as I doubt it is legitimate, I have not added to this page. Date: May/June 2022 Location/venue: eBay
